Charles has been advising on commercial dispute resolution for over 25 years.  He has conducted well over 400 commercial mediations and in addition has considerable experience of taking clients through the mediation process.  He is committed to ADR as a quick and cost effective method of resolving disputes and has been referred to in Legal 500 as “outstanding” and in Chambers as “an outstanding mediator”.

Charles was a partner at Pinsent Curtis solicitors in Leeds for six years and Shoosmiths in Nottingham for five years before joining a well-known national law firm as Partner in 2001.

Panel Membership

Charles is a founder member of the Association of Midlands Mediators, an active member of the ADR Group and a member of the Sport Resolutions mediation panel.  He is a regular speaker at seminars on mediation in particular, and ADR in general, and author of many articles and newsletters on the subject of mediation.


Personal Interests

Charles is married and has three sons. His outside interests are mainly sporting. He is an enthusiastic but erratic golfer and a spectator at football, cricket and rugby. He is a member of the National Trust, the Guild of Freemen of the City of York and a past President of the Old Nottinghamians’ Society.
