Practice Overview

David is a strong advocate of the benefits of mediation and has over 25 years experience of commercial dispute resolution.  His qualification and experience as a business executive coach have equipped him to deal with emotionally charged conflict. He combines this with a sound technical grasp of the law and for over 20 years was the leading editor of the standard handbook on company winding up procedures. He is a licensed insolvency practitioner. Specialises in all areas of commercial dispute resolution particularly insolvency and debt procedures, professional negligence, partnership, shareholder and banking disputes.


Professional Background

A graduate of the universities of Oxford, Heidelberg and Chester, David has enjoyed a distinguished legal career culminating in a partnership at a leading international firm based in Nottingham.  He still acts as counsel to the firm.  He added a Post Graduate Diploma in Business Executive Coaching to his string of qualifications in 2007.  He also conducts workshops in negotiation skills for postgraduate students at the universities of Chester and Leicester, where he is a visiting lecturer.


As well as being the leading editor of Atkin’s Court Forms on Companies Winding up for over 20 year he has edited and contributed to numerous books and articles on the subjects of mediation, executive coaching, insolvency and general law. He is a member of Westminster Coaching LLP.

Recent mediation cases include:

  • Sale of goods dispute between French manufacturer and UK distributor. 
  • Sale of goods dispute between Dutch manufacturer and Irish purchaser.
  • Claims for German insolvency practitioner against US automotive manufacturer.
  • Claim against clearing bank arising out of operation of bank account for dissolved company.
  • Company Voluntary Arrangement dispute over funds involving four FTSE 100 companies.
  • Claim by assignee in liquidation of breach of duty claims against former directors and cross claim in professional negligence.
  • Compensation claim under Commercial Agents Regulations.
