Practice Overview
Stephen qualified as a mediator in 2003, and since then has conducted close to 200 mediations, with an impressively high settlement rate. His specialist areas of mediation are in probates and inheritance, banking and investment management, and professional negligence. He has also mediated a number of church disputes. He has also mediated a number of Consumer Credit disputes and is the author of Consumer Credit Agreements – a working handbook to Truth in Lending.
Stephen is an expert in keeping lines of communication open, is not afraid of emotion and is financially literate; skills that ensure that settlements are reached.
Professional Background
A barrister since 1974 and an associate member of Pump Court Chambers, he has a background as a banking and financial services lawyer, advising banks and building societies. From 1986 he was a senior executive in banking organisations – heading up Midland Bank’s mortgage operation in the late 1980’s; Head of Financial Services at private bankers Coutts & Co, a partner and divisional head from 1993-2003.
