Mediators of the Next Generation

ADR Group is delighted to announce Tristan Jones as winner of the inaugural ADR Writing Competition for Young Professionals. Tristan is currently undertaking the Bar Vocational Course in London and will be joining Blackstone Chambers next year.

The winning essay entitled ‘Using costs to encourage mediation: Cautionary tales on the limits of good intentions’ provides a refreshing insight to how far the courts should go in examining parties’ conduct in mediation. The essay explores developments in the United States where certain states have some form of legal requirement that parties to mediation conduct themselves in ‘good faith’ and suggests ways in which their longer experimentation in this area could inform our own legal development.

ADR Group are delighted with the response to the Writing Competition and pledged to continue to run the competition as part of its mission to foster the next generation of ADR professionals. Michael Lind, Managing Director of ADR Group “This essay was selected after careful consideration from a number of high quality submissions. It is important to stimulate the minds of the next generation of mediators and we are proud to be running this initiative. Thank you to all who submitted entries and well done to Tristan.”

The prize awarded is a trip to attend the 8th Annual ABA Section of Dispute Resolution Spring Conference in Atlanta Georgia April 5-8 2006.

Tristan's article will be published in the May 2006 issue of the Law Society's dispute resolution magazine - the Section and the July issue of the IBA's mediation newsletter
