Jenny Green

Civil and Commercial Mediator

Practice Overview

Jennifer combines her academic rigour, top-tier legal training and real-world commercial experience with a uniquely personable, calm and level-headed approach. Jennifer trained as a solicitor with one of the world’s largest law firms, Baker McKenzie and qualified in 2006. Having worked in the Corporate, Litigation, IT-IP, Commercial and Employment groups, Jennifer went on to specialise in the Commercial/IT group focusing largely on the world of e-commerce and new media advisory, copyright and privacy. A lot of her work involved multi-jurisdictional projects, business/supply contracts, software licensing and advising on commercial terms and conditions.

Jennifer is now a consultant in the commercial sector where she offers independent commercial advice to clients especially from the start-up community.  In 2011 she built a thriving digital platform for a local community in the Barcelona area, connecting business with the local international community. In addition to her consultancy work, Jennifer has a keen interest in the ongoing development of privacy law and has founded a company offering clients a range of specialist bespoke services focused around the role of the Data Protection Officer.

Professional Background

Jennifer graduated with a first class law degree from The University of Leeds and trained as a solicitor in Baker & McKenzie’s London office working across their Corporate, Litigation, IT-IP, Commercial and Employment groups. During her time at Baker & McKenzie Jennifer also had the opportunity to work in their Sydney, Toronto and Hong Kong offices and gained a strong cross-cultural understanding of the global legal and commercial marketplace. She qualified as a solicitor in 2006 into Baker & McKenzie’s Commercial/IT group and went onto focus largely on the world of e-commerce and new media advisory, copyright and privacy. A lot of her work involved multi-jurisdictional projects, business/supply contracts, software licensing and advising on commercial terms and conditions.

Since leaving private practice to concentrate on her young family, Jennifer has broadened out her experience beyond legal advice to the wider commercial marketplace. Since 2010 Jennifer has offered independent commercial advice to clients especially from the start-up community.  In 2011 she built a thriving digital platform for a local community in the Barcelona area, connecting business with the local international community. Through her consultancy work, Jennifer has been regularly invited to co-deliver strategic business planning workshops to senior management teams alongside a network of international associates. Her experience here has been cross-sector including charities, religious groups, educational institutions, technology start-ups and large multi-nationals.  She incorporates a range of tools and techniques from the light-hearted and fun to the more rigorous and scientific.  She particularly enjoys working with clients on cross-departmental collaboration, collective prioritisation techniques and strategic business planning using group-think solutions.  Where she considers they can add value, she will offer to employ these more creative approaches within her mediations.

In addition to her consultancy work Jennifer is founder and CEO of TheDPO Group Limited.  Her company offers clients a range of specialist bespoke services focused around the role of the Data Protection Officer. Jennifer has a keen interest in the ongoing development of privacy law and has the ambition to build a highly valued network for the in-house privacy profession. In 2016 Jennifer qualified as a Certified Privacy Professional in Europe (CIPP/E) and is a member of the International Association of Privacy Professionals.

Other Experience

She brings a values driven, people centered approach to the mediation process and immediately helps put clients at ease with her relaxed communication style and strong listening skills. Her delivery is highly diplomatic and tactful. Clients often comment on the powerful combination of Jennifer’s emotional intelligence, professionalism, tenacity, pragmatism and attention to detail. She empowers her clients to better understand each other and the heart of the dispute.

Jennifer places great importance on the sustainability of a mediated settlement and wherever possible looks to build in resilience through mutual respect and understanding.  She will also engage in reality testing with a sharp attention to detail and is a keen ‘future-proofer’. Jennifer’s approach is exploratory and open-minded, she will work to challenge assumptions, and brings a skilful thought-provoking style of questioning. She will encourage her clients to think outside of the box to ensure a range of creative solutions are explored.

Jennifer is quite unique in the civil commercial mediator space as she brings a youthful, positive and growth oriented approach. Her high calibre commercial legal training and experience reassures clients they are in safe hands and her entrepreneurial approach introduces a refreshing and uplifting tone to the mediation. Jennifer feels her style is most keenly suited to mediations where an ongoing relationship between the parties is desirable, most notably in family business, partnership and workplace disputes.
