Michael Wood

Practice Overview

Michael has been advising and assisting his clients with their disputes for over 30 years.  From a background of international trade and insurance, he now works in more general commercial litigation – although often with an international element.  Michael is a highly experienced commercial litigator with extensive experience in negotiating settlements. 


Professional Background

Michael started his career at Messrs Norton Rose Botterell & Roche in 1979 before moving to become a Partner at Messrs Bird & Bird in 1984.  From there he became a Partner at Messrs Charles Russell.  In 2009 he joined Radcliffes Le Brasseur in London as Litigation Partner and has now moved to another well known solicitors firm. 

Michael brings calm intelligence to the mediation process.  He has now undertaken mediations across a wide variety of commercial sectors including:

  • Commercial litigation
  • Professional negligence claims
  • Minority shareholder, joint venture and family business disputes
  • Recovery and insolvency
  • Contractual and company disputes
  • Fraud and white collar crime
  • Regulatory and professional disciplinary matters
  • Trust disputes


Recent disputes have included

  • Professional negligence claim against solicitors
  • Dispute regarding fees due to staff supply agency
  • Dispute on contract for sale of high value residential property


Other Experience

  • Michael is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and a Director of two English trading companies. 
  • He is the author of the chapter on Mediation of Insurance Related Claims in “ADR and Commercial Disputes” published in 2002 by Sweet & Maxwell Ltd.
  • Michael has rights of audience in all civil courts in England and Wales.
